Thanks for the info Ralph. My '84 TD had a noisy L.Rear inner bearing, it had rust so I replaced the bearings in both wheels. I used a Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel to notch the bearing ring on the spindle and then set a chisel in the notch an whacked it several times and cracked the ring. It slid off with no damage to the spindle. I used Valvoline synthetic blend grease to repack. This was about 12k miles back and I rechecked and packed recently and all looked good. Parts and shop labor, $100 total for both wheels. Alternator and starter failed within two weeks of each other at about 78k miles. Rebuilt Delco alternator and 40" belt, $60. Rebuilt starter with shipping and tax, $150. TIP: To remove the alternator you have to remove the headlight nose piece(very easy) to LOOSEN the two bolts at the top of the radiator (and move it out slightly) to be able to get the alternator bolt out of the mount. Having the nose piece off gives easier access to the belts and mounts.
